Biblical theology, narrative theology, doggerel theology What fun this collection is I just wish there were poems in here E.g., from the book of Judges we get a great Gideon and a splendid Samson but no Ehud, my favourite left handed hero of faith, the disabled, despised type of the Messiah who God empoweers to use guile to defeat the fat oppressor who has been hoovering up the bounty of the land but, anyway, that s a story for another day, and my review of Judges Many are in a four line ballad stanza, three or four stressed beats per line, ABCB rhyme which is really like a very long rhyming couplet, but the eye and the heart don t like such a long line so poets tend to give us four manageable ones instead of two some are almost like limerick stanzas the Noah poem is ABCCB where only the A line does not conform to limerick rules the resurrection poem is in six line stanzas AABBBC with a modified final line that reminded me of Poe the Raven being his most finely and oerhaps over wrought example of this.Basically this is great No need to over analyse Just revel in the word play, the rhythms and the enjoyment of hearing these bits of scripture rendered so well Illustrations by Mark Beech in the style of Quentin Blake are very nicely done, too.
